The Head of the HFR Sergey Shishkarev spoke about possible participation in the elections of the President of the International Handball Federation.
The Supreme Council of the HFR offered to nominate his candidacy.
— It was a bit unexpected for me. Gerd Butzeck, nominated for this position by the national Federation of Germany, was discussed. Sergey Prigolovkin and Lev Voronin remember him for the work with the Soviet handball players. And the question arose quite unexpectedly why don’t I apply for this post. It’s a too responsible decision for me. I don’t like to lose. When participating, it’s necessary to win.
But I have to reconcile this decision with the Minister of Sports, the President of the Russian Olympic Committee Mikhail Degtyarev. I will go to Budapest in May. We want to attend the women’s Champions League final to support Anna Vyakhireva, Daria Dmitrieva, Valeria Maslova if their clubs pass the quarterfinals. Of course, it would be better if they played with each other in the final.
High-level consultations with representatives of different federations will also be held there. I will communicate with the presidents of the European Handball Federation, the International Handball Federation and colleagues from different countries. Such initiatives have been before, including initiatives from foreign colleagues. I suppose the suggestion deserves attention. I will definitely analyze it, understanding that this is a state matter.
