According to stuttgarter-zeitung.de, Velimir Petkovic will leave the national team of Russia, which he heads since spring 2020.

 — I miss the tournaments, miss the matches where something is at stake. I want to finish my career in the Bundesliga. It is obvious. I’m in good shape and very enthusiastic, — Velimir Petkovic shared.

The 67-year-old specialist led the national team of Russia to the 14th place in the World Cup-2021 and the team finished ninth under his guidance on the European Cup-2022.

Petkovic headed HSG Wetzlar in 1998 in Germany. He led Frisch Auf Goppingen in 2004 and won the EHF Cup twice with the team. In December 2013 he was released as a trainer. Then he headed ThSV Eisenach (from October 2014 until the end of the 2015/16 season) and worked three years and a half with Fuchse Berlin.
